Guided By Voices announce 45th album, Speculation And Gossip
The album is due January 22, 2027, on Guided By Voices Inc., with lead single “Designed For Use” now available.
Guided By Voices have unveiled Speculation And Gossip, their 45th album, and released its first single, “Designed For Use.” Scheduled for January 22, 2027, through Guided By Voices Inc., the record follows Crawlspace Of The Pantheon, which arrived in March.
Robert Pollard told Rolling Stone that his preoccupation with surrealism and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood accompanied the making of the album. He said the musicians resumed working remotely rather than performing together, each choosing how to handle instrumentation, sound and recording fidelity.
Pollard said he sought clearer separation between instruments and greater variety across the songwriting, styles and lyrics. He also wanted a brighter tone with less heaviness than Crawlspace Of The Pantheon, giving the musicians genre references that included post-punk, pop, prog and psych.
The announced tracklist begins with “My Cartoon” and ends with “Solar Systems.” Other titles include “Repenthouse,” “Answer Asparagus” and “Otherworldly Bathroom Fixtures.”
