A knee scooter or walker is an alternative to crutches or wheelchairs used by people with below the knee injuries. The site explains that some common medical conditions and injuries require a non weight bearing period of recovery includes broken bones, ankle replacement surgery, achilles tendon rupture, and bunion surgery. They also state that these scooters can be ideal for those with below the knee amputation, ankle arthritis and neuromuscular conditions.
The website continues by saying that crutches and wheelchairs are usually the only option for retaining any form of mobility when recovering from injures or illness. Wheelchairs size and operation can be limiting to a person and crutches can be tiring and leave the user exposed to slips and re-injury. Knee scooters address these problems.
The most common types of knee scooter have an elevated pad to rest the knee of an injured leg on and is propelled with the other free leg. They generally have either three or four wheels and have a set of handle bars for steering. The user is upright at their normal height and have mobility in a fluid motion of movement. Most models come with a basket attached to the front for ease of transporting items.
The website stress the importance of measuring the body correctly before purchasing a scooter, as manufacturing sizes can differ. After asking a family meme re or friend to help it is stated that the user should stand upright and bend the affected knee at a 90 degree angle as if it was resting on a scooter knee pad. A measurement from the bottom of the blended knee to the floor should be taken.
The site also contains a list of recommended scooters alongside previous customer testimonials. Those wishing to find out more can visit the website on the link provided above.
