Roasted to order in small batches and delivered direct-to-door, the latest product to join Boss Brew’s selection of gourmet coffee varieties heralds from Matagalpa, a central highland area of Nicaragua. The certified SHG (Strictly High Grown) and EP (European Preparation) beans are grown from select red and yellow Catuai, Catimor, and Parainema varietals at altitudes of between 900 and 1590 meters.
These hybrid coffee trees are cultivated by smallholder farmers in Molino Norte, a region of Matagalpa touted as the coffee capital of the country and renowned for its nutritive clay earth. The area’s mineral-rich soils provide the optimal foundations for growing premium beans which, once fermented for 14 hours, yield medium-bodied, well-balanced flavor notes.
The fruity taste of Boss Brew's beans is typical of Central American coffee, while the hints of sweetness and pungency are unique to the Nicaraguan varietals. The Matagalpan whole bean coffee's complexities balance fruity acidity with bittersweetness, making it ideal for a wide range of palettes including specialty coffee savants searching for a medium, mildly acidic roast for everyday drinking.
