Tokenization Is Bringing Traditional Markets On-Chain — and DeFi May Be Entering Its Next Growth Phase

Sep 15, 2026

Nasdaq's latest investment in crypto-market infrastructure is another signal that asset tokenization is moving closer to mainstream finance. Lvvas sees the convergence of tokenized assets, stablecoin settlement and decentralized applications as a potential foundation for the next phase of DeFi.

Colorado, United States, September 15, 2026 -- The line separating traditional finance from decentralized finance is becoming increasingly difficult to draw.

One of the clearest signals came in September 2026, when Nasdaq announced a $100 million investment in Payward, the parent company of Kraken, as the two companies deepen their collaboration around infrastructure for tokenized equities.

The significance extends beyond one investment.

Traditional exchanges, banks, asset managers and crypto-native platforms are increasingly exploring a similar question:

What happens when financial assets move onto blockchain infrastructure?

For Lvvas, a decentralized finance platform built around blockchain technology, smart contracts, stablecoins and decentralized applications, this represents one of the most important structural developments in digital finance.

Tokenization could ultimately expand the role of blockchain far beyond cryptocurrency.

From Crypto Assets to Assets on Crypto Infrastructure

The first generation of blockchain markets was dominated by assets that originated on-chain.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and thousands of other tokens created an entirely new digital asset economy.

Tokenization reverses the direction.

Instead of creating new crypto-native assets, existing financial assets can be represented and transacted through blockchain infrastructure.

Equities, government bonds, private credit, funds, commodities and other real-world assets can potentially be issued or represented as digital tokens.

This distinction is important.

Blockchain is gradually evolving from being primarily an asset class into becoming financial infrastructure.

Earlier in 2026, the value of tokenized real-world assets excluding conventional stablecoins exceeded $25 billion, with U.S. Treasuries, private credit and commodities among the major categories driving growth.

That market remains small relative to global traditional finance, but its direction is increasingly difficult to ignore.

Tokenization Alone Is Not Enough

Putting an asset on a blockchain does not automatically make financial markets more efficient.

The real value emerges when tokenized assets can interact with other components of an on-chain financial system.

That means settlement.

It means liquidity.

It means smart contracts.

And eventually, it means interoperability between different applications and financial products.

This is where decentralized finance becomes particularly relevant.

A tokenized asset that simply exists on a blockchain is fundamentally different from an asset that can interact programmatically with exchanges, lending markets or other decentralized applications.

Industry data has already highlighted this gap. Despite rapid growth in tokenized real-world assets, only a relatively small proportion has historically been actively integrated into DeFi protocols.

Closing that gap could define the next stage of tokenization.

Stablecoins Could Provide the Settlement Layer

If tokenized financial assets become more common, markets will also require efficient forms of on-chain settlement.

Stablecoins are a natural candidate.

Their ability to combine blockchain-based transfer with relatively stable units of value makes them particularly useful when smart contracts need to exchange assets automatically.

This creates a potential financial architecture with several interconnected layers:

tokenized assets representing value;

stablecoins providing settlement;

smart contracts executing transactions;

and decentralized applications providing the interface through which users interact with the system.

Lvvas' development philosophy reflects this broader architecture.

The platform focuses on decentralized digital asset trading while using stablecoins as a major transaction medium and smart contracts to automate parts of the trading process.

From this perspective, stablecoins are not simply another asset available to traders.

They are part of the infrastructure required for an increasingly programmable financial system.

DeFi's Next Chapter May Look Different

The next generation of decentralized finance may look considerably different from the DeFi market of previous crypto cycles.

Early DeFi growth was heavily driven by crypto-native lending, decentralized exchanges, liquidity mining and speculative tokens.

The next phase could increasingly involve interaction between blockchain-native liquidity and assets originating in traditional finance.

That would potentially expand the addressable market for decentralized infrastructure.

But it also raises new challenges.

Regulation, asset custody, smart-contract security, investor protection, liquidity and the legal relationship between a digital token and its underlying asset all need to evolve alongside the technology.

These issues should not be underestimated.

The long-term opportunity in tokenization will depend less on how many assets can technically be placed on a blockchain and more on whether those assets can be used securely, transparently and efficiently.

Finance Is Becoming More Programmable

Perhaps the most important development is therefore not tokenization itself.

It is programmability.

Traditional financial systems depend on numerous institutions to record ownership, process transactions, reconcile databases and settle assets.

Blockchain-based infrastructure introduces the possibility of combining ownership, transfer and execution within programmable systems.

Smart contracts can potentially automate processes that previously required multiple intermediaries.

This does not mean traditional finance will disappear.

Instead, the industry may be approaching a period where traditional financial assets increasingly interact with decentralized technology.

Nasdaq's latest move into tokenized market infrastructure is another indication that this convergence is already underway.

For Lvvas, the direction reinforces a simple long-term view:

DeFi's biggest opportunity may ultimately be larger than cryptocurrency itself.

It may be about building the infrastructure through which an increasingly broad range of financial assets can eventually move, interact and settle on-chain.
