Corrections
How to report a mistake, and what we do about it.
We check every story against the report it was written from before it is published, but checks reduce mistakes rather than remove them. When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so.
How to report a mistake
Email [email protected] with "Correction" in the subject line. Please include:
- the link to the story;
- what is wrong, quoted exactly;
- what you believe is correct, and where it can be checked, if you have that.
You do not need to give your name, but an email address lets us reply.
What happens next
- An editor reviews every report, normally within two working days.
- If a fact in a story is wrong, we correct the story and add a note at the end saying what changed and when, for example: "Correction, 17 October 2026: an earlier version gave the wrong year for the merger."
- Small fixes that do not change the meaning, such as spelling or formatting, are made without a note.
- If a story cannot be corrected because its source report was itself withdrawn or shown to be wrong, we update it or remove it, and say which.
- We reply to tell you what we decided.
Removal requests
If a publisher asks us to remove a story or a picture, or you believe a story treats you unfairly or breaks the law, email [email protected] with "Removal" in the subject line and the link. We review each request and remove content where it is right to do so.
