A24's Elden Ring film budget reportedly nears US$200 million
Alex Garland's adaptation has finished filming and is scheduled to open in theaters on March 3, 2028.

The budget for Alex Garland's Elden Ring adaptation has reportedly reached nearly US$200 million, which would make it A24's most expensive film, TechSpot reported. Production ended in July, with the theatrical release scheduled for March 3, 2028.
Budget estimates have increased since shooting began in the UK in April. Initial reports placed the cost well above US$100 million. The Wall Street Journal subsequently reported a US$175 million budget in June, while covering Google's US$75 million investment in A24.
A24's previous spending record was held by Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, with a production cost of around US$70 million. Before that, Garland's Civil War had been the studio's costliest project at roughly US$50 million.
Garland pursued the adaptation by preparing a 160-page script on spec, alongside 40 pages of visuals. He also traveled to Japan to seek support from FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki before the agreement was reached. His two preceding films, Civil War and Warfare, were released by A24.
The movie was shot for IMAX. Elden Ring, the fantasy game on which it is based, has sold more than 30 million copies.
