A writers’ room is in place for a potential third season of Netflix’s “Black Doves,” creator Joe Barton said, although the streaming service had not formally renewed the spy thriller as of November 4.

Speaking on the November 2 edition of the Pilot TV podcast, Barton said Netflix had indicated it wanted to commission another season and had supported the creative team. His comments, reported by The Scottish Sun, described continuing discussions rather than a confirmed order.

Barton said a third season could explore the histories of the assassins played by Gabrielle Creevy and Ella Lily Hyland. He also said some material about the pasts of central characters Helen and Sam had been filmed but had not appeared on screen.

Keira Knightley plays Helen Webb, who conceals her work for a covert organization from her husband, a powerful British politician. Ben Whishaw portrays her longtime friend and assassin Sam Young, while Sarah Lancashire plays Mrs. Reed. The series debuted in December 2024 after already receiving a second-season renewal. Netflix is scheduled to make all six Season 2 episodes available on November 5.
