Apple TV has launched “Nocturne,” a crime thriller starring Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham, with two episodes available to stream. Further installments are scheduled for Fridays through December 25.

The series adapts Lars Kepler’s bestselling novels “Lazarus” and “The Sandman.” Tim Van Patten directed the opening two episodes; his earlier work includes Apple TV’s “Masters of the Air.”

According to Apple’s synopsis, Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former soldier who becomes a homicide detective. Seeking a quieter life away from Philadelphia, Lynn relocates to a small western Pennsylvania town, where serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham, threatens both the community and Lynn’s family.

The hunt for Walter’s last missing victim leads Lynn to put his surrogate daughter, FBI agent Saga Bauer, in the killer’s path. Beetz plays Bauer, whose involvement leaves Lynn confronting how far he will go to protect those close to him.
