James Gunn, the DCU’s head, said the search for an actor to play Batman would begin soon, though the role remains uncast. He also said Harley Quinn would almost certainly feature in the DCU, with Margot Robbie’s involvement still unclear.

Speaking on The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon? podcast, Gunn rejected speculation that a Batman actor had already been chosen and would appear in other projects. He said suitability for the role would guide his choice, and a previous small part in The Suicide Squad would not disqualify a performer.

Gunn described Batman and Superman as contemporaries who would later become close friends. He said he did not see a significant difference in their ages.

Separately, Gunn praised Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn but said he was unsure whether she wanted to play the character again. If she did, he would try to make her return fit within the DCU; if not, he might choose someone else.

Robbie’s appearances as Harley Quinn include Suicide Squad in 2016, Birds of Prey in 2020 and The Suicide Squad in 2021.
