Mckenna Grace weighs possible reason for ‘Young Sheldon’ absence
The actress recalled a dispute over missing a day of filming, while showrunner Steve Holland said the clash would have affected an entire episode.

A dispute over a movie commitment may have contributed to Mckenna Grace’s absence from Young Sheldon’s final season, the actress suggested in a new book. Steve Holland, the CBS comedy’s showrunner, described the scheduling problem differently and also cited her increasingly busy career.
Grace, who portrayed Paige Swanson, discussed the disagreement in Jessica Radloff’s book about the series, according to excerpts reported by Us Weekly. She recalled a planned movie shoot lasting about two months and said a proposed one-day absence from the comedy became a major issue. She eventually left the film and questioned whether the dispute explained why her appearances stopped, though she did not believe there was lasting ill will.
Holland said her representatives sought to arrange movie work for a week already committed to Young Sheldon. In his account, the overlap meant missing a whole episode. Efforts to accommodate both productions were unsuccessful because the film’s schedule could not change. He acknowledged tense discussions with agents but said those business disagreements were separate from Grace herself.
Grace said she valued playing Paige and wanted another appearance before the comedy concluded in 2024. Addressing fan speculation, she also said she did not think Paige had died and preferred to imagine a happy future for the character.
