Michael Douglas says Marvel rejected request to kill off Hank Pym
The actor told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he wanted his character’s story to end after the second Ant-Man movie.

Michael Douglas said Marvel turned down his request for Hank Pym to die following the second Ant-Man film. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 82-year-old actor confirmed that he had wanted to leave the franchise earlier.
Douglas said surviving stage 4 cancer prompted him to consider experiences he still wanted in his career, including making a film that relied heavily on green-screen effects. He found performing without completed settings and visual effects challenging, though he said he enjoyed working alongside Paul Rudd and his fellow cast members.
He had described another proposed exit during a 2024 appearance on The View: a death scene for Pym in the third Ant-Man installment. Douglas suggested having the character become ant-sized and then explode, using visual effects. That proposal was not used, and he said at the time that he did not expect to appear in a fourth film.
Douglas’s appearances as Pym span Ant-Man (2015), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). No return for the actor in a future Marvel project has been officially announced.
