Prime Video has ordered a second season of Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s story. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White in the first season, but casting for the next installment has not been announced.

Flanagan said his approach to the adaptation had always included taking the narrative beyond the prom. He thanked King for supporting that direction, without disclosing plot details for the second season. No premiere date has been announced.

Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Global Television, said the series had reached established King readers as well as younger and international viewers. He singled out female audiences as a particular area of strength and expressed enthusiasm for the direction Flanagan and King planned to pursue.

King, who serves as an executive producer, also welcomed the renewal. He said he and Flanagan were excited about the story’s next developments and looked forward to audiences seeing them.
