Quentin Tarantino puts stage debut ahead of tenth film
His first play, The Popinjay Cavalier, stars Sacha Baron Cohen and is scheduled to begin London previews on February 23, 2027.

Quentin Tarantino says he has written a script he likes for another movie, but wants to complete his first stage play before deciding his next steps. The filmmaker discussed his plans during an October 16 appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
According to Variety’s account of his remarks, Tarantino wants to see how he feels after doing The Popinjay Cavalier, then spend time with his family before revisiting another film. He has long planned to end his movie-directing career with his tenth film.
Tarantino wrote and is directing The Popinjay Cavalier, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen. He told Norton that the project started as a screenplay before he decided to develop it for the stage, combining swashbuckling elements with French farce.
The production’s website describes a comedy set in Europe during the 1830s. Its central character is an actor traveling to Paris to perform, whose remarks about the French put him in danger.
London’s Phoenix Theatre is scheduled to host previews from February 23, 2027, with the official opening on March 18, 2027. The final performance is set for June 13, 2027.
Tarantino previously shelved The Movie Critic, which he had intended as his final film. His latest movie remains Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019.
