Sony Pictures Entertainment has bought the film rights to Wrong Organ's indie horror game Mouthwashing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Karyn Kusama, whose directing credits include Jennifer's Body and The Invitation, is attached to the adaptation.

The screenplay will be written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, who also wrote The Invitation. Scott Derrickson, director of Sinister and The Black Phone, will produce the project. A release date for the film has not been announced.

Mouthwashing centers on a spaceship's stranded crew and their deteriorating sense of reality. The game uses surreal imagery and heavy themes rather than relying heavily on jump scares.

Originally released for PC in 2024, Mouthwashing is also available for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S. Players can access the game through Xbox Game Pass as well.
