HBO’s Big Little Lies has completed a single day of filming for its third season, with full production not expected to begin until 2027, according to Variety. The limited shoot was intended to maintain the show’s approved California state tax credit, insiders said.

Merrin Dungey, whose character is Detective Adrienne Quinlan, took part in the shoot at the Ranch Lot at Warner Bros. Studios Burbank, Variety reported. An exact date for the broader production start has not been set.

No director has been confirmed for season 3. Insiders said the person directing the one-day shoot had previously worked on the series and had DGA approval, but did not identify that person.

Returning cast members for the third season include Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, alongside Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern. Meryl Streep joined the series during its second season.
