Jessica Lange says her acting career may be ending
The actress identified Mary Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night as a potentially fitting final film role, while noting other projects remain in development.

Jessica Lange, 77, told Rolling Stone she feels her acting career may be ending, describing her performance as Mary Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night as a potentially fitting conclusion to her film work. She did not announce a definite departure and said a couple of potential projects remained in development.
The actress said getting movies that interest her made had become more difficult. Reflecting on decades of acting, she expressed gratitude for the work while acknowledging the difficulty of balancing family responsibilities with her career and filming in different places.
Her comments followed a return to American Horror Story for season 13, after her previous appearance in 2018’s Apocalypse. Lange said the prospect of playing four characters again—Constance Langdon, Sister Jude, Fiona Goode and Elsa Mars—was the reason she agreed to return. She also valued the series’ approach of bringing actors back in different roles.
Lange’s awards include a supporting-actress Oscar for 1982’s Tootsie and a Best Actress Oscar for 1994’s Blue Sky. Her stage performance as Mary Tyrone earned her a Tony Award in 2016.
