Iron Maiden announce graphic novel for Somewhere in Time anniversary
The collaboration with Z2 pairs a graphic novel with specialty vinyl reissues to mark 40 years since the 1986 album.

Iron Maiden and publisher Z2 have announced a graphic novel and specialty vinyl reissue project marking the 40th anniversary of Somewhere in Time. The project, titled Somewhere in Time: The Graphic Album, includes eight chapters linked to songs from the 1986 record.
The book draws on the album’s artwork and its cyborg incarnation of the band’s mascot, Eddie. Kelly Sue DeConnick wrote the prologue and epilogue, with illustrations by Andy MacDonald, imagining events leading up to the scene depicted across the original album cover.
Guitarist Adrian Smith discusses the album’s writing and recording in an interview conducted by Dave Shack, managing director at Phantom Music Management. Bill Sienkiewicz contributed the introduction, while other participants include Steve Niles, Goran Parlov, David Dastmalchian, Corin Hardy, John Reppion and Leah Moore.
Z2 is accepting preorders for several editions. Deluxe and Platinum packages include four framed Eddie cards and a bookplate signed by Smith. The project also includes 7-inch vinyl reissues of “Wasted Years” and “Stranger in a Strange Land,” both written solely by Smith.
The project follows the band’s earlier collaboration with Z2 on the Eisner Award-nominated Piece of Mind graphic novel.
