BioWare documentary to trace studio’s history and closure
Commissioned by Canada’s Super Channel, the film includes BioWare’s founders and began filming two years before Electronic Arts closed the studio.

A documentary about BioWare will examine the game developer’s 31-year history, including its closure by Electronic Arts. Deadline reported that Massive Effect: The BioWare Story is in production, with filming having begun two years before the shutdown.
Canada’s Super Channel commissioned the documentary. Producer Shane Fennessey said in a statement on X that it would recount how the studio emerged from Alberta through accounts from people involved. He said the closure had added the responsibility of documenting the end of its story.
Founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Augustine Yip will appear in the film. Other participants include Casey Hudson, director of Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic; FemShep voice actor Jennifer Hale; former EA CEO John Riccitiello; and developers who worked at BioWare.
The filmmakers are also collecting contributions from fans through a website, including photographs, videos, cosplay, artwork and memories. Separately, fans have petitioned the Canadian government to help former BioWare employees purchase the studio as part of efforts to preserve Mass Effect.
