NBC has released a teaser featuring David Boreanaz as private investigator Jim Rockford in its upcoming contemporary version of The Rockford Files. The video takes the form of an advertisement for Rockford’s investigative services, complete with a working telephone hotline.

A special preview of the opening episode is scheduled for Saturday, January 2nd at 8pm ET, 5pm PT, following NBC’s NFL broadcast. Peacock will offer the episode the following day. The show’s regular NBC slot begins Thursday, January 7th at 8pm ET/PT.

The story follows James Rockford as he resumes private investigative work in Los Angeles after being paroled for a crime he did not commit. His efforts to establish a legitimate life put him at odds with local police and organized crime.

NBC says the hotline draws on the original series’ voicemail and lets callers hear a message from Boreanaz and register for text updates about the show. Michaela McManus, Jacki Weaver and Ilfenesh Hadera also star.
