Denis Villeneuve offered an update on casting for his James Bond film at the 2026 LACMA Art+Film Gala on November 7, saying he was enjoying screening actors but leaving the identity of the next 007 undisclosed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Villeneuve jokingly promised a casting announcement during his acceptance speech, then cut himself off before naming anyone. He joked about the reaction of Amy Pascal, a producer on the film, drawing laughter from the audience.

Speaking separately to Variety on the red carpet, Villeneuve described the screening process positively without identifying any candidates. Amazon MGM Studios has made no official announcement about its choice for the role.

The film will follow Daniel Craig’s departure after five Bond movies, ending with No Time to Die in 2021. Steven Knight is writing the upcoming installment, with Pascal and David Heyman producing. Villeneuve is also preparing for Dune: Part Three to open on December 18 before turning to Bond.
