The Strokes released a Warren Fu-directed video for “Lonely In The Future” after appearing as musical guests on SNL for the fifth time. The video uses puppet versions of the musicians, including guitarist Nick Valensi, who did not join them for the television performance.

Valensi has been taking a temporary break from the group for the past six months, with Longwave’s Steve Schiltz filling his place. This was the band’s first SNL appearance without Valensi. Their set featured “Lonely In The Future” alongside “Going Shopping.”

Walton Goggins accompanied “Going Shopping” on bongos, reprising his contribution to that song’s video. Albert Hammond Jr. wore a Lou Reed T-shirt for both performances. Druski hosted the episode, becoming the first digital content creator to take that role.

Spitting Image created the puppets for the new video. Its cast of caricatures also includes Lou Reed, Stanley Kubrick, Anthony Fantano, Elon Musk, Greta Thunberg, Rick Rubin and Rupert Murdoch. The company is behind the British satirical show Spitting Image and Genesis’ “Land Of Confusion” video.
