Netflix’s cancellation of Ransom Canyon left Josh Duhamel surprised and initially frustrated with the streaming company, the actor told Us Weekly in an interview published October 19. The western romance, also starring Minka Kelly, ended after two seasons.

Duhamel said he had considered the series safe from cancellation, citing its nearly two weeks at No. 1 and what he viewed as strong numbers and an enthusiastic audience response. He expressed disappointment that viewers would not get a third season.

While acknowledging that Netflix had its reasons for keeping or dropping shows, Duhamel said those decisions were not always clear to him. He said he needed to move forward but regretted the outcome for fans invested in the story.

Playing Staten Kirkland had felt comfortable, Duhamel said, and he would like further opportunities to portray cowboys. He mentioned a couple of potential projects but said they were too far off to discuss.

The series combines romance and family drama through the intertwined stories of three ranching families in Texas Hill Country.
