Marley Guevara, the Utah musician who records as Maz, has announced Loveandpain, a five-track EP scheduled for release on 12/11 through Winspear. She has also released its title track.

During work on the project, Guevara discovered forgotten tapes featuring her great-grandfather's voice and guitar playing. Those recordings became both a source of inspiration and material she sampled for the EP.

Guevara said the title song draws on her great-grandfather's romantic spirit. She described it as an exploration of the connection between love and pain, and of choosing to embrace love despite the possibility of being hurt.

The EP opens with “Coffee,” followed by “Bullshit,” “Loveandpain,” “Radiosilence” and “Choke.” Guevara has released indie pop as Maz since 2022, including a synth-pop interpretation of Dinosaur Jr.'s “Little Fury Things.”
