Tom Hanks and Kelli O’Hara to bring ‘This World of Tomorrow’ to Broadway
The time-travel romance is scheduled for fall 2027, with Kenny Leon returning to direct after its 2025 Off-Broadway run.

Tom Hanks and Kelli O’Hara will reunite on Broadway in fall 2027 for This World of Tomorrow, according to an announcement on October 22. The production will give Hanks his first Broadway role since 2013 and follows the play’s sold-out engagement at New York City’s The Shed in 2025.
Hanks developed the script with James Glossman from several of his own short stories. Kenny Leon will again direct, and Brian Anthony Moreland will produce. A Shubert theater will host the limited engagement, but the venue, performance schedule, ticket prices and sales details have not been announced. Further casting and creative appointments are also pending.
Set near the close of the 21st century, the romance centers on Bert Allenberry, played by Hanks, who seeks to alter his future through visits to the past. His journeys repeatedly take him to a single day during the 1939 New York World’s Fair in Queens. O’Hara returns as Carmen, the character she played opposite Hanks at The Shed.
Hanks made his Broadway debut in Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy in 2013, earning a Tony nomination for his performance. O’Hara has received nine Tony nominations and won the musical actress award in 2015 for The King and I.
