Brokeback, the rock group led by Doug McCombs, have announced Colder, Milder and made its title track available to hear. Thrill Jockey will release the eight-track album on February 26, following the band's previous album, Illinois River Valley Blues.

The personnel remain unchanged from 2017: McCombs plays alongside James Elkington on guitar, Peter Croke on bass and Areif Sless-Kitain on drums. McCombs also belongs to Tortoise and Eleventh Dream Day, while Elkington records as a solo artist.

For the recording, Brokeback worked with John McEntire, McCombs' bandmate in Tortoise and Sea And Cake. Amalea Tchilds contributes occasional vocals. Elkington arranged the strings, with cello played by Lia Kohl and violin by Macie Stewart.

The album opens with “Great Danger,” followed by “Invasion” and the title track. Other songs include “Golden Palm,” “Blue Elephant, Black Cloud,” “Ark And Deluge Both,” “Dead Hands” and “Pigeon Dreamt A Man.” Its cover artwork was created by the late Rick Froberg, who led Drive By Jehu and Hot Snakes.
