Hailee Steinfeld has released a new recording of “Magic” by The Cars for Hexed, the upcoming animated movie in which she voices the teenage lead. The cover is her first music release of 2026 and will appear on the film’s soundtrack.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ soundtrack is due November 20, with Hexed opening in theaters November 25. In an October 23 Instagram story, Steinfeld expressed pride in the recording and the work behind it.

According to the film’s official synopsis, Steinfeld plays Billie, a teenager whose hidden magical powers send her from suburbia into a witch realm called Hexe. She joins her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, to uncover family secrets. The voice cast also includes Walton Goggins, Jodie Foster, Henry Winkler, Dan Stevens, Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry.

Written by Ric Ocasek, one of The Cars’ lead singers, “Magic” appeared on the band’s fifth studio album, Heartbeat City, in 1984. Steinfeld’s previous song, “Dangerous,” arrived in April 2025 for Sinners, another film she starred in. Before that, she released “SunKissing” in 2023.
