Netflix has announced Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, a live-action prequel from the Duffer Brothers and Kate Trefry. A teaser places the story in Marion, Nevada, in 1955, before the events of both Stranger Things and the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

Trefry is the new series’ co-creator and showrunner, while Joe Wright will direct. The Duffer Brothers said Trefry has worked with them since Season 2 of Stranger Things and wrote the stage play.

The Duffer Brothers said the project had been in development in their minds for years and would introduce different heroes, villains and a new setting. Trefry described it as a separate story that would retain the original show’s horror and mystery, with support from Netflix and 21Laps.

No cast or premiere date has been set. Whether any actors from the original Stranger Things series will appear remains unclear.
