An adult animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun has received an order for two seasons at Netflix, Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs said during Lionsgate’s Q2 2027 earnings call.

The novel tells the Twilight story from Edward Cullen’s viewpoint, shifting the focus away from Bella Swan. In the film adaptations, those characters were played by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, respectively.

According to Beggs, Meyer’s interest in television, particularly animation, helped bring about the adaptation. He described the author and her team as closely involved in directing the process with Lionsgate and Netflix.

Beggs said the project was intended to extend the Twilight universe and engage both the company’s audience and Meyer’s audience. He also expressed high expectations for the series.
