Bill Murray says fame does not make him happy
The actor discusses the difficulties of celebrity and the appreciation he receives from viewers in a golfing docuseries on Paramount+.

Bill Murray says being famous does not make him happy, though he values hearing from people who found comfort in his movies. The 76-year-old actor discussed his experience of celebrity in the fourth episode of his golfing docuseries on Paramount+, according to People.
Asked by a crew member whether fame brings him happiness, Murray laughed and answered, “In a word, no.” He said he continues to learn how to manage being recognized and that the experience is different from what people might expect.
Murray also described a benefit: the goodwill of viewers who tell him his films made them laugh during difficult periods. He said those encounters feel good, even as he acknowledged that he does not always behave pleasantly and dislikes putting on an overly friendly manner.
The series, A Course in Ireland, follows Murray and his friend Tom Coyne, an author, on a golf trip around Ireland. Guests include Jason Kelce, Chris O’Dowd and two of Murray’s brothers.
