Frank Iero adds drawings to signed Black Parade anniversary editions
The My Chemical Romance guitarist says he altered James Jean artwork included with some deluxe copies of the album’s 20th anniversary reissue.

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has said he added drawings to artwork inserts packaged with some signed deluxe copies of The Black Parade’s 20th anniversary edition. He initially described 13 different variants, each unique, before explaining that some of his signing-session doodles repeat.
The alterations drew attention after a Reddit user posted an image of a signed insert featuring The Patient, a print by album cover artist James Jean. The figure had been changed to resemble the lead character in the 1994 film The Crow. Iero acknowledged on Instagram that he made that version, describing it as a way to collaborate with Jean’s work.
Iero subsequently identified designs including Ziggy Stardust, Dracula, King Diamond, Mickey Mouse and Batman. He also listed Hannibal Lecter, after another Reddit post showed an insert resembling that character. In a later Instagram Stories explanation, he said he often draws while signing items and that most variations do not repeat.
The deluxe reissue of the 2006 album contains prints of Jean’s artwork. The band offered a limited signed allocation through its online store; those copies have sold out, while other editions remain available.
