Rose Garden will issue the self-titled first album by Montreal’s nowhere else to be on December 4. The indie rock group announced the record while releasing its opening song, “r1 (ripples).”

Oscar Louis and Chris Vincent lead the band, whose singles have appeared over the past six months. Earlier releases include “brother bear” and “hanna,” along with “across the line,” “higher! higher! (for Paul)” and “margins of a scene.” All are included on the album.

The band says “r1” sets out the record’s central idea: people inherit the effects of what happened before them while shaping the lives around them. It describes the song’s emotional progression as moving from connection to tragedy, then returning to a question about how people affect one another.

Other tracks include “toronto story,” “intermission,” “m4m” and “do you ever miss the sun?” The album ends with “r2.”
